Sexy Hair WAVES

Friday, May 29, 2009

So since in my last post, I wrote about looks for guys, now it's the ladies' turn!

I just love love love the long wavy hair look. I don't like tight curls, but I love loose waves like the you just got out of bed look or just went to the beach. It's messy yet tamed. It looks so natural and fab. Here are pictures of what I mean:

No matter what color your hair is, it works. It's sexy and easy to do. Here's how to achieve this look:
  1. Turn hair upside down and spray freshly washed roots with volumizing or texturizing spray. Massage it in. I like Bumble and Bumble or you can try Aveda volumizing tonic.

  2. If hair is naturally coarse or curly, work a straightening balm through hair.

  3. Brush hair (this works the product evenly through hair). Blow dry hair straight, starting at the roots to get extra volume. Hair must be completely dry for this look to work. Blow cold air at the roots to add volume (cold air locks in a style).

  4. Separate hair into three sections, securing with a ponytail holder (it's easier this way to curl your way through each section).

  5. To curl hair, use a wide-barrel curling iron. Starting with one section, take a 1-inch portion of hair, spritz it with styling spray (again, I love Bumble and Bumble Styling Spray) or regular hairspray. Wrap hair around the barrel of the curling iron. (Wrapping hair is different from the traditional curling method. You don't want to 'clip' hair into the barrel. Wrapping allows you to curl all the way to the root). When you're curling, make sure to leave ends loose to avoid a crimp mark.
Release the curl after about 5-10 seconds (hold longer if you want a tighter curl). You should have a corkscrew curl.

  6. Roll curl and bobby pin it close to the scalp. (I'm lazy, so I skip this step to save time).

  7. Alternate the direction of the curl as you work your way through each section (It's all in the direction you wind hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Start by placing hair on top of the barrel and wrapping around, then switch by putting the barrel on top of the hair before winding it around). Alternating directions makes curls look more natural. Some curls can remain tight, some loose.

  8. Once pinned curls have cooled, release them.

  9. Remove nozzle from dryer and gently loosen waves with cool air. You can also separate curls with your fingers, just make sure not to brush them out.

  10. To add shine, spritz a hair serum. Stylist David Babaii finger-combs Biosilk Silk Therapy serum into actress Kate Hudson's hair (first photo shown above). You can forego hair serum and spritz with saltwater spray. I like John Freida Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Sea Spray.

  11. Set with hairspray. Just don't overdo it because you don't want new waves to feel "crunchy."
Hair Products You Need:
  • Volumizing spray
  • Straightening balm (if you have thick, course hair)
  • Hair dryer
  • A 1-inch barrel curling iron
  • Ponytail holder and bobby pins
  • Shine serum
  • Hairspray
  • Saltwater spray
Have fun making your beachy waves ladies!

Calling All Recessionistas!

Friday, May 22, 2009

So with the recession and hard economic times going on, it's tough to spend a lot of money on clothes, so my top 6 favorite stores to find cute clothes for great prices are:

1) Forever 21 (clothing material is not the greatest but they have cute, trendy clothes for great prices as well as a decent accessories selection)

2) ZARA (designer inspired clothes for decent prices)

3) Nordstrom Rack (top designer clothes for a lot cheaper, usually sent straight from Nordstrom)

4) Loehmann's (similar to Nordstrom Rack)

5) H&M (similar to Forever 21, but material is slightly better)

6) Francesca's Collections (similar to H&M, but clothes are more "girly")

You can definitely find some cute pieces at any of these stores, so have fun shopping without breaking the bank!

On the other hand, if you're rolling in dough or feel the need to splurge a little bit, my top 6 splurge worthy places are:
1) Anthropologie

2) Nordstrom

3) J. Crew

4) Urban Outfitters

5) Bloomingdale's

There should be some good sales this weekend for Memorial Day, so happy shopping ladies!!! =)

Fro-Yo Craze

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

I'm absolutely loving frozen yogurt. My top 3 places are:

Red Mango

Pinkberry (too bad there's none in the Midwest yet)

Whiteberry (this little place that I had 3 times while on vacation in Sarasota, FL)

My favorite toppings to put on the yogurt are strawberry, mango, and mochi. It's SOOO GOOD!! I usually get the original yogurt flavor, but the pomegranate and tangomonium from Red Mango are good too.

I want to try Yogurtland because it's a self-serving yogurt place, but too bad there are none around me =(

Frozen yogurt is like a drug. I could eat it everyday. If you haven't tried it, what are you waiting for??? Hopefully you have a frozen yogurt place near you or one that's coming to you soon. So check for locations near you, and happy eating! It will fulfill your sweet cravings while being a healthier alternative to ice cream!
